Cold wind-whistling morning Fahrenheit 36 inside and 32 outside at 8 35/60 a.m. - breakfast at 9 1/4 in 1/2 hour
Then came upstairs meaning to read an hour but seeing George bringing soft rag from Lane ends to the front of the house to finish out the walk to the terrace wall, went down to shew him where to put the stuff, and then stood over him till he took large coal pit-stones from the front of the house on to the embankment and there stood talking to Mark Hepworth and looking about till came in at 11 1/2
Then with Robert the joiner planning about the old china closet stoothing and new gallery front-ornament till 12 10/60 when wrote the above of today
Mark Hepworth will bring stuff from Northgate by the back Lodge road to under the laundry court wall at 1/3 fifteen pence per yard cube - carting only - and will bring it by the Lodge road at tuppence per yard cube less i.e. at thirteen pence - and he will bring it to Lodge and shoot it down into the hollow at 1/- per yard cube - then there will be filling besides worth threepence soil and fourpence hard stuff
Nelson + 2 measuring the terrace walls this morning - the stuff Mark has now brought from Northgate is at 1/6 per yard cube including filling - counting fourteen pence carting and fourpence filling
From 12 to near 4 read and made notes from page (including the page or 2 before breakfast) 262 to 380 volume 2 Wilkinson
Ann went to Cliff hill at 2 and returned before 4, and staid with me 10 minutes - went out at 4 10/60 - to the meer
Robert Mann and Jack Green and William Lord repairing the wearing of the brook opposite the bit of ground last taken from Pearson's holm - stood there some time then to Listerwick - then walked leisurely home about 6 1/4 or after a few minutes in the farmyard and walked in front of the house till 6 3/4
Dressed - dinner at 7 5/60 - Ann read French - coffee - read aloud a little about the middle of d'Israeli on the Literary Character volume 2 - then read the newspaper (single) till 10 - then till 10 40/60 read and made notes from page 380 to 391 volume 2 Wilkinson
Fine day - Fahrenheit 39 inside and 33 outside at 10 50/60 p.m.
