Much rain in the night - fine morning and Fahrenheit 40 now at 8 50/60 breakfast at 9 in about 1/2 hour

Then had Mawson and paid him in full for moving stuff from about the house to the embankment in front of the house and to near the bottom of the hall croft near the wood, and at the bottom near the quondam hall lane - had paid him as per agreement 7 1/2d per yard cube for the stuff taken from under the house windows I supposed all the rest would be at the same price but Mawson brought me a bill for it done by day! this I declined taking and referred to Mr. Samuel Washington’s measurements and on his making out the quantities accordingly it seems the stuff cost 11d per yard cube moving and still I have paid £4+ less than the account delivered by day! - I told Mawson that the Manns would have taken the job at 8 1/2d per yard and abided by it - take care in future

Then had Mr. Samuel Washington he brought me the quarry plans - Mr. Freeman has still 1000 yards to get Samuel Washington thinks he ought not to go on skirting the whole wood - getting all the stone with least baring on it - but ought to get farther back - Samuel Washington to speak to him to this effect on the next baring being set out

Then had Stephen Mallinson Carpenter in account of Little Marsh and Mr. Lister of Westercroft for stone for Shibden hall walls &c. &c. to call again to be paid next Saturday and to give me some information about Landymere stone

Then had Hinton in account of paving &c. at Northgate

Mr. Jubb called between 12 and 1 - had been at Cliff hill and found Mrs Ann Walker very well for ætis 83 - her blister &c. all right

Ann mentioned Mrs. Swallow's cream coloured pony that came yesterday being too low and not strong enough for her purpose - to be sent back this afternoon with civil note of thanks from Ann and sorry that for the 2 above named reasons the pony would not suit her

Sat with Ann some while - then wrote and sent by George this afternoon, as he passed thro' Halifax on taking the pony back to Mrs. Swallow's clough (near Sowerby bridge), letter, compliments and inquiring the character of William Rennie, to 'John Clough Esquire Acomb near York'

Out at 1 1/2 - Ann rode off to Cliff hill on the elder pony (at 2) - out about till came in about 5 with Robert Mann - dressed - then settled with Robert and Joseph Mann till 6 1/2 - then, at accounts till dinner at 7 10/60 and sat over the dinner table reading the newspaper till 8 35/60 - declined coffee fire in the blue room and sat  writing the whole of the above of today till 9 - then at accounts - and asleep in my chair near 1/2 hour and at accounts again and made a few extracts from Portugal and Gallicia volume 1 respecting the bar at Oporto &c. and read a little in Murray's Encyclopaedia of Geography till 11 50/60 at which hour Fahrenheit 38 fine day.
